The planning space ecosystem enabled by the PetroVR - Palantir interoperability provides easier, more robust communication and collaboration between assets, business units and corporate teams. By enabling assets to tell their story more effectively and efficiently, corporations can more easily access the optionality of their assets for competitive advantage.
The webinar will start with a brief overview of PetroVR’s scenario planning tool. Through the integration of PetroVR into Palantir’s PlanningSpace™ we will view, analyze and optimize scenarios in order to better understand business optionality and trade-offs in light of corporate objectives.
Jason Ambrose is an expert engineering economist with over 25 years of industry experience. As Managing Director of Palantir Solutions, Mr. Ambrose is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company. In addition to being an expert petroleum economist, Mr. Ambrose has extensive experience in oil and gas business planning, decision analysis, and portfolio analysis. Mr. Ambrose holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada.
Donald Zmick has over 30 years of international oil and gas experience in most major basins, including field operations, petroleum engineering, finance, business development, strategy and negotiations. He is an expert at technical and commercial integration of major capital projects, negotiations and change management. He has worked in technical and leadership roles for Chevron, JP Morgan Chase, Murphy Oil, and Maersk Oil, and also has been an oil and gas project and strategy consultant for several years. Don earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University and an MBA, specialized in Finance, from The University of Chicago.

Interoperability between Palantir's Panning Space and PetroVR simulation provides asset level teams with the most effective way to develop multiple views of an asset or field development plan. They are able to create PetroVR scenarios which are then submitted to the corporate level teams. Corporate teams receive multiple scenarios, richer data and more information on an asset, and they can in turn create more options to meet corporate objectives.
Traditional planning workflows tend to have limited interaction between the corporate and asset level teams and their respective data sets. The asset teams have their own perspectives and needs, and the corporate teams may have a broader set of objectives.
Asset level teams have traditionally been restricted in their ability to generate multiple scenarios for their assets, which in turn limits the corporate level understanding of viable and realistic options.
Palantir & PetroVR have created a PetroVR scenario planning workflow to improve the connection between both the asset and corporate level teams. The objective is to ultimately produce a more intelligent, collaborative, effective and efficient planning process within an E&P company.
Asset level teams are now able to better tell their story by sharing multiple views of an asset for the corporate level to analyze. Seamless integration means shorter recycle times for the company to react quickly to changing market conditions and objectives.
Executive Decision Makers, Asset Development Planners and Corporate Business and Portfolio Planners within an E&P company will benefit from this interoperability.
Corporate level teams will become more effective in meeting different financial performance metrics in the short medium and long term given the constraints they need to operate under.
Asset level teams will benefit by being able to tell their story more effectively to the company thereby minimizing rework and recycle time.
Asset level teams use PetroVR Scenarios to generate multiple PetroVR scenarios of their field development plans. In PetroVR Econ, a link is made to send simulation results to Palantir Economic regimes. Once the variables are connected, the Palantir Economic Engine calculates the regimes entered in Palantir Planning Space.
In turn, the corporate level teams will vet the models received to ensure that they meet asset level constraints such as timing, contractual obligations and realistic resource management. Corporate level teams are able to use this rich data to develop more options in order to understand which scenarios best meet the corporate objectives and provide further insights for the assets teams.
Companies are able to easily recycle this process as information is gained in order to rapidly find the optimal scenario which best fits the corporate objectives. Both the Asset and Corporate teams quickly come to better conclusions regarding their assets’ role within the corporate objectives.
